Direct flights between Faro and Funchal from June

TAP has announced the launch of a new direct route between Faro, the capital of the Algarve district and Funchal, the capital of Madeira Island, starting on 2nd June and operating until 11th September.

Flights will be operated twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays, with Embraer 190 aircrafts, which have a capacity for 106 passengers.

On Mondays, the flight will leave Funchal at 20:50 and return from Faro at 23:15. On Thursdays, the flight will leave Funchal at 06:10 and return from Faro at 08:35.

Faro's Gago Coutinho Airport is strengthening its offer of direct flights for the summer, adding a total of 86 routes to 75 destinations.

In addition to Funchal, Faro will also be providing new connections to three international markets: New York in the United States, with United Airlines from May; Helsinki, with Finnair; and Reykjavik, with Play.

According to ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal, with this reinforcement of air connectivity, the Algarve will now be connected to 22 international markets. For the summer of 2025, an average of 821 weekly frequencies is expected, representing an increase of 8 % compared to the same period last year.

The Regional Secretary for Economy, Tourism and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, said that the resumption of this connection between Madeira and Faro ‘is excellent news’ for Madeira and the Algarve, ‘reinforcing territorial cohesion and promoting greater mobility’ for our citizens.

‘This direct link facilitates access between two important tourist regions in the country, stimulating not only domestic tourism, but also creating new opportunities for residents, businesspeople and students who need to travel more frequently and comfortably,’ he said.

Eduardo Jesus emphasised that, as with flights to Lisbon, Porto and Ponta Delgada, ‘passengers resident in the region will benefit from the Social Mobility Allowance when travelling between Funchal and Faro’.
