Aljezur's Sweet Potato Festival starts this Friday

One of Southern Portugal’s biggest food festivals taking place in autumn brings to the local population a gastronomy that revolve around sweet potatoes.

The quality of the sweet potato, of the Lira variety, is known nationally and internationally as the best in the country and in the world, with the Protected Geographic Identification (PGI) seal.

At the festival, visitors can find stands that represent the best of the local cuisine. In addition, exhibitors will be selling handicrafts, genuine products from the region and some innovations in local commerce, such as beer made from sweet potatoes.

Not to mention the variety of delicacies presented at the festival that can be a temptation to the taste buds such as jams, ice cream, liqueurs, all the basis of sweet potatoes.

This event, besides adding flavour brings great economic importance to Aljezur and helps to maintain and promote the cultural and gastronomic importance of the area.

The Sweet Potato Festival will open on Friday and Saturday this week from 12 pm until midnight and on Sunday from 12 pm to 10 pm.

Entrance and parking are free.
