153,292 sold properties in 2017

In Portugal, 153,292 properties were sold last year (420 per day). And prices have climbed 9.2%.

In all, 153,292 homes were sold in 2017, an increase of 26,186 (20,6%) from 2016, which averages 12,700 properties per month, the equivalent of 420 per day, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Sales grew and prices too!
As far as sales are concerned, "in 2017, 153,292 houses were SOLD, a figure that represents an increase of 20.6% over 2016," reveals INE. Transactions
totaled 19,300 million euros, 30.6% more than in 2016. The total value of transactions is the highest in the last nine years, since 2009, the year that INE began to
produce the Housing Price Index (IPHab ) - and exceeds the figures for 2010, record year of the index so far.

Between October and December of last year alone, 42,445 homes were sold for 5,578,682 million euros while in the same quarter of 2016, 34,339 homes were sold for 4,047,495
million euros.

Overall, buying a home is also more expensive. Household sales prices increased by an annual average of 9.2%, up 2.1% from the growth already
registered in 2016. This increase in prices, according to INE, was more significant in second-hand homes (10, 4%) than in the new ones (5.6%), which is almost
double the growth rate.
